Despite diverting into the realms of ideology and the climate, Deputy McSwiggin’s speech in support of amendment 2 carried the day. Consequently, the original proposal from P&R is replaced with the Dudley-Owen/McSwiggins amendment. Therefore, P&R will be required to come back to the States with a detailed recovery plan before they can pursue the second tranche of £250,000,000 (instead of getting carte blanche to go for £500,000,000 from the get go). Serves them right for bringing little other than scaremongering and typical Trott bluster to the party……
How they voted:
Suffice it to say, the usual ‘establishment’ suspects voted against the amendment (including all of P&R) – but they still lost….
Deputies: Tindall, Brehaut, Le Clerc, Parkinson, Trott, St Pier, Stephens, Fallaize, Graham, Green, Le Tocq, Brouard, Soulsby, Roffey.
Surprisingly, this vote brought some of the other establishment ‘usual suspects’ into the opposing camp for once: Deputies De Sausmarez, Hansmann-Rouxel, Dorey, Langlois, Tooley (you know, those who voted themselves another year in office without permission from the electorate).
